Staff Accountant

Position Summary

The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the organization's accounting operations by maintaining accurate financial records, preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts, assisting with month-end close activities, and ensuring compliance with accounting policies and procedures. This role works closely with the accounting and finance teams to provide timely and accurate financial information that supports business decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and account adjustments.
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts, bank accounts, and balance sheet accounts on a regular basis.
  • Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes.
  • Maintain and analyze financial records to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Support accounts payable and accounts receivable functions as needed.
  • Prepare schedules and supporting documentation for audits.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements and management reports.
  • Review transactions for compliance with company policies and accounting standards.
  • Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies and variances.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
  • Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules.
  • Ensure timely filing and compliance with applicable tax and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and internal controls.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support business operations and financial objectives.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • CPA certification or progress toward CPA preferred.

Experience

  • 2 to 5 years of accounting experience preferred.
  • Experience with general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and month-end close activities.
  • Experience working with ERP systems and accounting software.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience with accounting systems and financial reporting tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA designation or CPA candidate.
  • Experience in a multi-entity or high-growth environment.
  • Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and financial analysis.
  • Experience with ERP systems such as NetSuite, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, SAP, or similar platforms.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 20 pounds
